“It is important to know your audience. Sometimes the best approach is to be more aggressive and other times obtaining the desired result is achieved with a less adversarial approach.”
Melanie works extensively with clients to understand the complexity of their case and how best to reach a desirable solution. Her clients often comment on the depth of her compassion and empathy.
“During my own custody battle, I saw how much my attorney helped me and I thought ‘I can do that and help other people.’ I know that no custody or divorce issue is easy. Even if separation or divorce is the right thing to do, there is always a loss, and it is important for me as an attorney to stay sensitive to that.”
Melanie received her Juris Doctorate from Regent University School. During law school, she was an Associate Member of the Moot Court and Trial Advocacy Boards scoring among the top in her class for oral advocacy skills.
“I want to put my clients into the best financial posture possible and I don’t ask them to compromise what I think is right. I take each one of their issues seriously and look at it from their perspective. I never underestimate the responsibility I have when I am advocating for my clients.”
Originally from Boulder, Colorado, Melanie graduated magna cum laude from the University of Denver with a B.A. in Communications and a minor in Law and Society. She studied International Law abroad, spending time in France and Israel, as well as Italy, the Czech Republic, and Germany. She also has an Associate Degree in American Sign Language Interpreting.
Prior to practicing law, Melanie worked as a family law paralegal. Virginia Beach Law Group has been her home since 2012.
Melanie can be found spending time with her family at the beach or training her German Shepherd in IPO. Using keen insight and understanding, she has the skills to effectively and strategically advocate for her clients.
