A California couple has to pay the price after uprooting a 180-year-old oak tree from their property. The couple removed the tree so it could be placed on an adjoining plot of land with their new home.
Because it was part of a conservation project a judge fined the couple $600,000 even though the tree was on their property.
The couple is appealing for a new trial, saying they didn’t receive proper representation from their attorney, who had a private family matter come up before the 19-day court proceeding, said their new lawyer Richard Freeman.
A couple of hours-worth with an attorney up front could have helped this couple avoid this $600,000 disaster. If you think you need a lawyer, you’re probably right!
